Steps to Becoming an MTR Teacher

Thank you for your interest in our residency program. Please read these Steps to Becoming an MTR Teacher to familiarize yourself with the application and selection process. If you have questions before starting your application, please indicate your interest or ask a question here. If you are in college but not yet a senior, please consider applying to one of our summer programs instead.

The requirements to apply are:

  • an undergraduate college degree or anticipated graduation prior to the start of the residency year
  • an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • and US citizenship, permanent residency or DACA status.

Once you have submitted your online application, please watch your email inbox diligently as you will be receiving emails from MTR recruiters who will continue to walk you through our process and be available for individual questions.

The Final Application Deadline is March 5, 2023.

Recommendations:

Applicants will need to list three different people who will serve as a reference for them. MTR will email your references and ask them to answer several questions and write your recommendation. Remember to check the completion status of your three recommendations to ensure your application is evaluated.

Video Interviews:

After submission of application, applicants receive a link to record a video interview responding to prompted questions. We will review your video interview after we are done evaluating your application.

Selection Weekend:

Qualifying applicants are invited to attend an interview weekend held in Memphis in either December or a virtual/remote selection day in the Spring.

Selection Weekend attendees are notified of their application decision within the following week.

Get Ready for Memphis:

Residents receive information on the Praxis Subject Assessment to take as well as other on-boarding tasks. All residents will be required to submit proof of COVID vaccination as part of onboarding.

Move-in begins in late May, and Resident Orientation begins the first week in June.
