If you are in college but not yet a senior, consider applying to one of our summer fellowships instead.

All teacher residency applicants must have: 

  • Any undergraduate Bachelor’s degree or anticipated graduation prior to the start of the residency year

  • An undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher

  • A US citizenship and permanent residency

PRIORITY APPLICATION WINDOW

  • Application Due: September 2, 2026

  • Mandatory Virtual Selection Days: October 1 & 2, 2026

  • Decision Due: October 18, 2026

APPLICATION WINDOW 2

  • Application Due: November 11, 2026

  • Mandatory Virtual Selection Days: December 14 & 15, 2026

  • Decision Due: December 27, 2026

APPLICATION WINDOW 3

  • Application Due: February 9, 2027

  • Mandatory Virtual Selection Days: March 3 & 4, 2027

  • Decision Due: March 16, 2027

Application windows are part of a multi-round admissions process. Submitting early gives you more time to meet future milestones and prepare for next year — but don’t worry, we’ll continue accepting applications through February 9, 2027.

Steps to Becoming an MTR Resident Teacher

  • 1. Learn More

    Attend a virtual or in-person MTR Event

    Ask a question or let us know you’re interested

    Sign up to chat with a staff member

  • 2. Apply

    Complete the written application, which includes your resume, GPA & unofficial academic transcript, and written essays.

  • 3. Recommendation

    List two different references on application

    References will answer several questions and write a recommendation for you

    Keep tabs on their completion status

  • 4. Video Interviews

    After submitting application, check your email for a link to record a video interview

    Video will be reviewed after application is evaluated

  • 5. Selection Days

    If qualified, you will be invited to a final round of virtual interviews at your designated Selection Days.

    Selection Days consist of you meeting MTR staff and teachers, asking questions, and personal interviews.

  • 6. Offers and Decisions

    Selection Day attendees will be notified of their application decision the following week

  • 7. Final Steps to Become a Memphian!

    You will receive information on the Praxis Subject Assessment

    Complete other on-boarding tasks

    Pack up for move-in late May

    Prepare for Resident Orientation starting the first week of June
