MTR Camp Literacy Fellowship
The MTR Camp Literacy Fellowship is designed to expose college students to education in Memphis and the MTR Residency program within the context of a fun, high-energy day camp.
Founded in 2013, MTR Camp is a literacy-based summer camp created To:
INSPIRE undergraduate students to pursue careers in literacy education within public schools in Memphis.
EMPOWER campers with individualized reading intervention and opportunities that will support their ongoing language and literacy development.
EQUIP preservice and inservice teachers with meaningful learning opportunities in research-based literacy practices.

Compensation & Benefits
Stipend
Fellows are paid a $1,500 summer stipend.
Room & Board
Housing is provided at the University of Memphis.
Food
Meals are provided during orientation week. During the three weeks of camp, fellows are given a $250 food stipend and dinners are provided in the dining hall M-Th.
Training
Fellows engage in intensive pedagogical and content training through Memphis Teacher Residency and get hands-on teaching experience at MTR Camp.
Community
Shared experiences and collective learning with fellows from across the country, MTR staff, and students.
“What do fellows do?”
Teach
Fellows get to teach reading and lead creative exploration at MTR Camp for elementary schoolers in the heart of Memphis.
Learn
Alongside their peers, fellows will learn research-based classroom leadership and literacy instruction methods throughout the fellowship experience.
Explore
Fellows will have time during their weeks here to explore Memphis and its rich culture and history through tours, visits, and community panels.

Application process:
1. Online Application: Includes uploaded resume, two references, current college transcript, and one essay.
2. Recorded Video Interview: Once application is submitted and approved, you will receive an invitation to a video interview
Requirements for acceptance into the MTR Camp Literacy Fellowship include:
Sophomores and Juniors enrolled in a four-year college/university, with a graduation date AFTER the summer of 2025. If you are graduating before the summer of 2025, please consider the Residency program instead.
High energy, teachable individuals who are interested in teaching in an under-resourced school
Able to work the entire camp term (June 1 — June 28, 2025)
US Citizenship, Permanent Residency (Green Card) or DACA status
Undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher
