Growing through teaching: A journey of impact and transformation
Meet STU ROZENDAL,
Class of 2022
Stu is deeply moved by being able to guide young Memphis minds. His narrative goes beyond academic milestones; it moves into personal growth, resilience, and a dedication to shaping not just students but a compassionate and brighter future for Memphis.
In Memphis, within its culture and tight-knit community, sits the journey of Stu Rozendal. After just 2.5 years of living in Memphis, Stu's life has developed into a purposeful commitment to inspire young minds through teaching.
Choosing a different path than what he studied in undergrad, he was driven by a passion for English literature. Stu moved from Michigan to join Memphis Teacher Residency as a part of the Class of 2022. His teaching career at Compass Midtown began with teaching freshman English and eventually evolved to include the role of Director of Freshman Academy.
The impact of MTR has extended beyond the classroom, shaping Stu's naturally ambitious spirit. The organization's pursuit of excellence, driven by a commitment to Memphis’ children, became a driving force. He reflected that MTR is about fostering a strong support system that has been built through fifteen years of educators, all sharing the fundamental belief in the right to quality education. That’s part of what keeps him excited to continue teaching and learning.
As he reflected about his past few years with MTR, Stu shared that one truth remains constant: the organization is curious, and encourages its teachers to be the same. He mentioned Dr. Brandi Cox (MTR Academic Program Coordinator) as someone who has made the greatest impact on him both professionally and personally.
“[Brandi] is someone who lives with integrity in all she does and has shown that she deeply cares for me as a person first, teacher second.”
Because of her support, Stu works to stay introspective and open to change -- both for his benefit and his students’. With the guidance of Brandi, his hard work to grow as an educator is what defines his approach to teaching. Not for his gain, but to demonstrate Christian love expressed in equal education.
Celebrate fifteen years of impact by keeping it going!
