Holy Week Devotion | Luke Savidge
Psalm 84: 11-12
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. 12 O Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you!
2014. My first year of teaching at Sherwood Middle School. Though it was years ago, the first couple of weeks will always stick with me. I felt as I transitioned out of residency and into my own classroom that I was prepared for any challenge, and that if I worked hard enough, I would be okay. I was wrong.
My classroom door on the second floor of Sherwood had this small square window that provided a tiny picture of the ‘magic’ that I wanted to have happen in my room. Friday of my third week came and I was overwhelmed, tired, and felt like a failure. I dropped my students off for lunch, went back to my classroom, covered that small window, and called my wife and cried.
See, the truth that I learned not only in those first three weeks but continually throughout my four years at Sherwood is this: my present circumstances do not dictate whether or not God is good, HE IS. In the midst of a hard school year, challenging family circumstances, or where we are as a country today with COVID19, it is easy to lose sight of the faithfulness of our creator, and give in to the fear, stress, and anxiety of the world.
During this time of uncertainty and unknown, hold close to your friends, your family, and other folks who can speak truth and life into who you are during this time. Hold close to scripture and be reminded of the faithfulness of our creator throughout time. And lastly, hold close to the community of friends and believers throughout MTR that will continue to love, support, and encourage you.
Also, read Psalm 46 this week.
