Emotional Stamina

Teaching is challenging, rewarding, exhilarating, and most of all, exhausting. Great teachers are constantly thinking of ways to improve, reaching that one student, and making chemical equations relevant while simultaneously smiling, giving grace, apologizing, forgiving, and holding a firm line.

There is a temptation for great teachers to never stop; there’s always more to do and never enough time! But truly great teachers know that boundaries are absolutely essential to be a sustaining presence in the life of a child. We need to refuel and reenergize, remind ourselves why we do this tremendously challenging job and then thank God we are called to it.
Emotional stamina is the discipline and maturity to say “No” when our energy tank is running on empty. Find what fuels you and let yourself enjoy it.
