Crosstown Presents to City Council 12/3
On Tuesday, December 3, the Memphis City Council will vote on a resolution to provide the Crosstown Development Project with $15 million that will fund a variety of critical infrastructure, blight removal, and other site-preparation expenses. This is one of the final pieces needed to finance the project, and will complement over $150 million in private funding and federal tax credits that have been secured. This approval by the City Council is a critical step in moving forward with construction on this landmark project.
You are invited to be present at the Memphis City Council meeting at 3:30 p.m. on December 3 to show your support. The meeting will be in the Council chambers on the first floor of City Hall, 125 North Main Street. Metered street parking is available on Jefferson and Adams Avenues; additional paid parking near City Hall is available at the Shoppers Garage, Mud Island Parking Garage, and Comfort Inn parking garage (rates vary; click here for more information on parking downtown.)
Between now and then, you can make your voice heard:
- Share this post with your friends
- Email Mayor Wharton and the members of the City Council and ask them to please support this $15 million infrastructure investment. Send a letter to the Commercial Appeal to explain why you believe in this vision for Crosstown.
- If you’re on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, post with the hashtag #CrosstownMemphis.
Make sure you drop by the offices of the Crosstown Development Project, 427 North Watkins Street, on Monday, December 2, from 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, December 3, 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. to pick-up your Crosstown Collaborative t-shirt and sign that you can bring with you to the City Council meeting.
Once complete, the Crosstown development project will create 877 new jobs, contributing $37,000,000 in wages to our economy every year. These figures are from a City of Memphis economic impact study that was released earlier this year. Click here for more information about the jobs and revenue this project will create.
